Drosmere
Description
A small, practical hunting town at the edge of a vast forest. The buildings are timber and fieldstone, built low and sturdy. A central plaza serves as the market and gathering place — trappers selling pelts in the morning, loggers drinking in the evening. The air smells of wood smoke, cured leather, and pine resin. It is a town that works hard, speaks plainly, and does not go into the forest after dark.
Life on the Edge
Drosmere’s economy runs on what comes out of Elderfen Forest — timber, game, pelts, and foraged herbs. The people here are hunters, loggers, and trappers by trade, and they know the forest’s edges well. They’ve logged enough of the western Elderfen to open a proper road through the thinner woods, and most commerce flows along that corridor.
But nobody in Drosmere mistakes familiarity for safety. The deep forest is off-limits by common sense, and stories of things seen and heard beyond the tree line keep even the boldest hunters from straying too far. Whether the fear is justified or simply tradition passed down through generations, it shapes everything about life here.
Notable Features
- The Plaza — Drosmere’s central square, where the daily market runs and the town gathers for announcements and disputes
- The Timber Yards — logging operations along the Elderfen’s western edge, supplying lumber to Drosmere and nearby settlements
- The Hunters’ Lodge — an informal guild hall where trappers and hunters share information, post bounties on dangerous animals, and trade
What’s Known
Drosmere sits in eastern Restrend, a short distance from Elderfen Forest. It’s a small town — too small to matter much politically, but well-known to anyone who trades in timber or pelts from the region. The mayor, Harlan Doss, has held office for as long as most residents can remember and is generally regarded as steady and reliable.
The town’s relationship with the forest is practical but uneasy. They take what they need from its edges and leave the rest alone. Travelers passing through are warned not to wander off the road, and most take the advice.
