Agathon
Description
A modest town nestled in a shallow valley, built around an old stone cathedral that has stood since before anyone can remember. The cathedral’s bell tower rises above the surrounding buildings — once a beacon for pilgrims, now just the tallest thing for miles. The streets are cobbled near the center and turn to packed dirt at the edges. It has the feel of a place that was once more important than it is now — buildings slightly too grand for their current use, a market square slightly too large for its current traffic.
What’s Known
Agathon grew around its cathedral centuries ago, when the site drew pilgrims from across Deros. The faith that founded it has faded in prominence, but the town endured as a regional hub — larger than Tethermoor, with a proper market, a mayor, and enough trade to sustain itself comfortably.
The town sits south of Tethermoor, deeper into the south-eastern interior of Deros. Travelers between the two make the journey in roughly four to five days on foot.
It’s well known that Agathon has fallen to The Arkanis. The occupation is open and undisguised — the town’s cathedral repurposed, its mayor replaced. Merchants have stopped passing through, and refugees who made it north and west carry stories of soldiers in the streets and public punishments in the square.
